Derrek Van Robinson

Derrek Van Robinson, age 72, began his journey into eternity on May 29, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 29, 1951, and throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his warmth, kindness, and musical talents.
Derrek was a proud graduate of J.S. Wright High School, Class of 1970, where he excelled not only academically but also athletically as a skilled basketball player. He was actively involved in numerous clubs and organizations, leaving a lasting impact on his school community.
In his professional life, Derrek found fulfillment working in construction, logistics, and trucking. His dedication and hard work earned him the respect of his colleagues and the admiration of those he worked alongside.
However, Derrek's true passion lay in music. He was a talented musician, both as a member of a band, choir, and as a vocalist. His melodious voice and love for music brought joy to all who had the privilege of listening to him sing.
Derrek was a devoted father to his four daughters: Charlee La'Sasha Moss, Portia Lynette Robinson, Robin Moore, and Alexandra Aleah Robinson. He was also a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlie Mae Robinson & father, Eddie Robinson, Jr., but leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will continue to live on through his family and friends Derrek is survived by his two aunts, Deborah Sanders and Thelma Woody; one uncle, Roscoe Douglas (Winnie); devoted cousins, Patricia Slappy and Dorothy Williams, devoted lifelong friend Rosella Moss; along with a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Derrek Van Robinson will be remembered for his kind heart, his unwavering faith, and the beautiful music he shared with the world. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will live on forever in the memories and hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
