Florie Delphine Walton Smith

Florie Walton Smith passed peacefully on November 20, 2019 at her home in Riverdale, Georgia.  Florie was born on November 17, 1942 in Abbeville, SC to the later Charlie and Edith Walton

Florie was a graduate of the 1961 class of J. S. Wright High School. As a student, she earned the crown of Miss Wright High School.  Florie moved to Philadelphia, PA where she received an associate and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Temple University Class of 1983. Florie was acknowledge as an honorary member of the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice, PA Chapter from 1979 – 1999. She retired from the Philadelphia Prison System as a Social Worker in 1999 and moved to Riverdale Georgia. She began her career as an educator for the Clayton County School System.

Florie was preceded in death by parents, two sisters, Annie B. Walton and Diana Donnell and two brothers, Odis Walton and Melvin Peterson.

Flo as we called her loved her family and especially enjoyed being with them on the holidays. She loved working in her yard and working on her little house in Abbeville. Flo loved helping not only her family but any one she though.

Florie leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband Vernon “Skip” Smith of the home; three children, Monterrary and Otis Robinson of Philadelphia, PA and Verie Smith of Abbeville, SC; two sisters, Edith W. Jones of Union City, GA and Alonie Walton of Greenwood, SC; one brother, Frankie Milford of Greenwood, SC and twelve grandchildren.  She is also survived by three aunts, Florence Peterson, Leona Smith and Florence (Constantine) Atkinson; three sister in-laws, Deborah (Joseph) Smith, Juanita Walton and Donna Milford; a very special niece, Cheryl Brock; two step daughters, Yvette Atkinson and Heather Goodman-Smith; a very special friend, Katherine Brooks of Philadelphia, PA; a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
