Gene Keith Tinch, 67, of Abbeville, SC, entered eternal rest after a life filled with love, faith, and service on July 27, 2025. Born on August 30, 1957, to the late Permelia and Bennie Tinch, Gene was a proud 1976 graduate of Abbeville High School, where he found his passion for football and was selected as an all-conference player. After graduation, he began working at Abbeville Mill before enlisting in the United States Army in 1978. While in the military, he was a Sergeant that served as a Material Storage and Handling Specialist and an Accounting Specialist until 1985. Following his military service, Gene went on to retire from Bosch in Anderson, SC, where he built a lasting career.
From a young age, Gene was a devoted member of St. Peter A.M.E. Church and later joined Tabernacle of Deliverance and Praise in Anderson, SC, where he enjoyed singing in the men’s choir. He loved simple pleasures like watching westerns, admiring cars (especially his toy PT Cruiser and Volkswagen Beetle collections), and indulging in Jelly Cream Pies, ice cream, and Almond Joys. He also had a passion for coaching recreational league football before his health declined. Above all, Gene was a dedicated provider, ensuring his children and grandchildren never lacked anything they needed including an endless supply of fast-food money to his grandkids and all-you-can-eat pancakes.
Gene was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather whose life reflected compassion and commitment. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Veronica Denise Tinch, his parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Lillie Sue and Robert Coleman. He leaves behind four children: Diko Tinch (Tamica), Syreeta Tinch, Marcus Tinch (Ashley), and Alexus Enwright, and five grandchildren: Ambria Gilliard, Mykal Tinch, Mariya Tinch, D’Kodi Tinch, and A’Keianna Chisholm. Gene is also survived by his sister Gearldine Tinch of Abbeville, SC, brother Stanley Tinch of Killeen, TX, sisters-in-law Carolyn and Belinda Marshall, brothers-in-law Allen Donaldson and Leon Marshall, a nephew raised in the home, Deshon Tinch, and friend George Lyons, who was like a
brother. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will cherish his memory forever.
