George Blackwell Obituary

George "Duke" Blackwell, age 59, of 429 Long Cane AME Road, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Abbeville Area Medical Center.

Born and raised in Abbeville County, Duke was the beloved son of James (Lola Mae) Bobo and the late Mary Jane Blackwell Long.

He was a proud graduate of Dixie High School in Due West, SC.

For over two decades, Duke was a dedicated employee of Prysmian Cable in Abbeville, SC, where he worked faithfully for 21 years until his health began to decline. Known for his vibrant personality and infectious spirit, Duke had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He truly cherished spending time with his family, dancing, cracking jokes and simply enjoying the company of loved ones. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan and lived and breathed for the game. His presence brought warmth and laughter to every room, and even his colorful expressions, often laced with a few "choice words", which were shared with love and good humor.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Regina Blackwell, with whom he would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on April 29th. He is also survived by his father James Bobo, three sons, Mario (Keenyana) Adams of Ninety Six, SC;

Devarius Blackwell of Abbeville, SC; and Tremaine (Jasmine) Gray of Jacksonville, FL; four daughters, Natasha (Tyrone) Pickney of Lexington, SC; Tywanna Blackwell, Miasha Blackwell, and La'Teisha Gray, all of Abbeville, SC.

He is also survived by one brother, Robert Aiken of Honea Path, SC; two sisters, Barbara Bobo of Abbeville, SC and Amy (Edward) Reed of Greenwood, SC; two brothers-in-law, Darrell Brown of Durham, NC and Donald Brown of Greenwood SC; and two sisters-in-law, Leslie Temple and Alice (Reverend Charles) Evans, both of Greenwood, SC.

A special light in his life was his Goddaughter, Jayla Morton, who was reared in the home. Duke was the proud grandfather of 15 grandchildren, and he leaves behind a host of loving relatives and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
