George Archie Calhoun

On July 16, 1937, George Archie Calhoun was born to Tommie Calhoun Sr. and Janie Calhoun in Abbeville, South Carolina. On January 14, 2023, George departed this life at home with loved ones. George served in the US Army, later worked as a postal carrier in Evanston, Illinois for a number of years, and then moved back to Abbeville, South Carolina. He was a faithful member of Long Cane AME Church where he served as a Trustee for some years, a member of the Male Choir, Usher Board, and an Armor Bearer for Rev. Dr. Julius M. Johnson.  

"Kite," as he was fondly called by his family and friends was kind, loving, and a generous person who always wore a smile on his face. He enjoyed going fishing, playing cards, playing checkers, and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and a special friend Ms. Gertrude Wright of 48 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Sarah Calhoun; a special friend, Ms. Gertrude Wright; one son, Kiley Rolls, Sr. (Tiahedia); nine daughters, Stacy Alexander Young (Ricky), Tammy Smith (Keith), Lashandra Calhoun, Vanessa Wright, Ladell Janesia Stephenson (Robert), Tyedra Calhoun, Aliyah Dawson, Sonya Donaldson (Eric), Shana Calhoun; five brothers, Tommie Calhoun Jr, Charles Calhoun (Bonita), Earnest Calhoun, Roy Calhoun (Patricia), Willie Calhoun (Jackie); one sister, Eddie Louise Willis. Also, he leaves to cherish a host of 55 plus grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tommie and Janie Calhoun; two sons,  Bobby Calhoun and George Edward Calhoun; two daughters, Sanette Solomon and Mavis Wright; two brothers, John Henry McDuffie and Rev. James Calhoun; four sisters, Rosetta Harris, Mary Ball, Linda Lomax, Margaret Elizabeth Minor.
