Mrs. Georgia M. Morton, 94, was born on April 23, 1929, in Abbeville County, South Carolina, to the late Mary Aiken. She passed away peacefully at the family home of 107 Enright Lane, Abbeville South Carolina in the afternoon on June 16, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was the eldest remaining matriarch of her family, an era has ended, but her legacy of love continues.
Mrs. Georgia Morton was a member of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church in Hodges, South Carolina. She was a faithful member that gladly served on the Stewardess Board, a part of the Missionary Society of Mt. Zion A.M.E, a Sunday School Scholar, a member of Class Number Two, and in any capacity that she was needed.
Her husband, Moses Morton preceded her in death. They celebrated 71 years of marriage at the time of his passing. They were the parents of five daughters. In addition to being a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and homemaker, she retired from Abbeville Shirtmakers in September 1985, after thirty plus years.
Next to her love and commitment to her family, she enjoyed sewing, canning fruits and vegetables, planting flower beds and spending time with her family and friends.
She leaves a legacy of fond memories and deeds to be cherished by her family and friends. Her devoted daughters, Mary A. Tate of Greenwood, South Carolina, Mamie V. Morton of Abbeville, South Carolina, and Michelle C. Morton of Charlotte, North Carolina; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Additionally, four sisters-in-law Ester Aiken, Emma Morton, Eleanor Morton, and Carol Hicks, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends remain.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Mary Aiken, two daughters, Linda Morton, and Betty Jones; one grandson, Jason Morton; two brothers Roy Davis (Evelyn) and Lindburg Aiken (Ester); and four brothers-in-law, James (Eula Mae), Clarence (Pearleana), R.L (Emma), Marvin (Eleanor), and Herbie Morton; along with three sisters-in-law; Louise T. Aiken (Martin), Cora E. Jackson (Lem), and Clara Aiken (Lem).
