Ms. Gertrude Postell, a long-time resident of Abbeville County, transitioned from earth to glory Thursday July 14, 2022, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Robert Postell, Sr. and Hattie Bell Postell of Abbeville, County; she was 90 years young when God called her home.
Ms. Postell attended the Calhoun Falls Public School System and at an early age, she became a member of Glovers A.M.E. Church. She spent her early years working in the culinary industry; beginning in Calhoun Falls as a cook until she moved to Norfolk Virginia where she continued to work in the culinary industry.
Ms. Postell returned home to Calhoun Falls after her mother’s passing to attend to and assist her father. She did homemaking tasks for a while and textile work at the Calhoun Plant until her health permitted her to carry on.
Ms. Postell loved her children; but, there was a special love and great affection for the grandchildren that she helped raise.
Ms. Postell was preceded in death by a son, Roy Postell; two brothers, Charles William (Mary) Postell and Robert Postell, Jr., and a sister, Beatrice Postell-Rollinson.
Ms. Postell leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Brenda Postell of the home, Bertha (Wallace) Postell Turman of Calhoun Falls, South Carolina; one son, Alphonso (Victoria) Postell of Abbeville, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; great great-grandchildren; along with host of other relatives and friends who will forever carry her love in their hearts.
