Jamel Mullins Obituary

Jamel Wilson James Mullins, 36, the second born of loving parents Stephanie and Kenneth Mullins Sr. transitioned to his new home on January 16, 2024. Jamel was born on January 23, 1987, in Germany while his parents were both serving in the United States Army. During his childhood Jamel grew up in Miami, FL and Abbeville County, SC. Jamel attended and started his early education in Dade County school systems at Golden Glades Elementary where people quickly grew to love and pour into him. While at Golden Glades Elementary Jamel was a star student with his academic excellence and charming personality. Following his move to South Carolina, Jamel enrolled in the Calhoun Falls school system, where he once again illuminated, was admired, and established relationships with many residents. Jamel then transferred to Abbeville School systems where his light once again shined bright on many students, teachers and athletic coaches. Throughout high school career Jamel excelled in all his classes without effort which earned him countless academic awards and achievements. Throughout his high school career Jamel was involved in many sports which included football and basketball. While in high school Jamel touched the hearts of many and became affectionately known as “Mull” by his friends. Jamel took great pleasure in entertaining and bringing joy to others, making him the life of the party. After graduation Jamel attended South Carolina State University along with his best friend. Jamel enjoyed mentoring others and served as a counselor for a group home for teenage boys. Making a difference in the lives of young people brought Jamel immense satisfaction and pride. After returning home to Abbeville Jamel started his career with Prysma Group. While working at Prysma, Jamel's charisma, charm, and bright light continued to spread among his coworkers, with many of whom he formed long-lasting relationships.  Jamel enjoyed spending time with his family, laughing, entertaining, and watching “dem cowboys”.  Jamel was loved by many near and far. At an early age Jamel was introduced to Christ and Christened at Mount Herman AME of Bunch Park, FL. Upon moving to South Carolina Jamel was baptized at Fairfield Baptist Church in Abbeville, SC where he was an active member  throughout his childhood and adult years.

Jamel's three heartbeats, Jaevion, Jamia, and Jamell, are his greatest accomplishments.  Jamel was a devoted father who would do anything for his kids, making sure they were always well taken care of and remained present in their lives. Jamel was actively involved as a “sports dad” coaching basketball and football officially and unofficially.

Jamel leaves his precious memories to his wife Tiara Devette-Mullins, his children, Jaevion, Jamia, Jamell, his parents Stephanie and Kenneth Mullins Sr., siblings, Kenneth Mullins II (Jamie), DeAndra Carter (Joseph), Yolanda Mullins, Montez Mullins, Clarence Mullins, paternal grandmother Charline Lowman of South Carolina, maternal grandmother Lovie Mash of Florida, nieces, Alaina, Genesis, Breanna, Lillian nephews, Kenneth Mullins III, Christian, “bonus” sibling Doug Belcher, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
