Mary Tate Obituary

Mrs. Mary Alice Tate, 69, was born to the late Moses and Georgia Mae Morton on April 17, 1955, in Abbeville County, South Carolina. She is the second eldest daughter of five. She was called to her eternal home October 08, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was known for her kind heart, infectious smile, and unwavering faith. She dedicated her life to serving others, being helpful and spreading joy wherever she went.

Mrs. Mary Tate was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church in Hodges, South Carolina. She enjoyed praise and worship. She would serve in any way she could; Mary was a member of Class Number Two. She attended Abbeville High School and graduated Class of 1975.

She worked at Abbeville Shirt Plant, Bollage, Electrolux, as well as patient sitting. She retired from employment from Abbeville Nursing Home.

Next to her love and commitment to her family, she enjoyed sewing, word searches, her morning coffee, eating her favorite snacks (cashews and pecans), watching her favorite soap operas (Young and the Restless), and spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves a legacy of fond memories and deeds to be cherished by her family and friends. Her husband, Adger O. Tate, devoted daughter, Jacquelyn Tate-Patton of Anderson, South Carolina; sons, Christopher A. Tate of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Brendan A. Tate of Greenwood, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Jarvon Tate of Anderson, South Carolina, Asia Tate of Greenwood, South Carolina and Kazdon Tate of Anderson, South Carolina. Additionally, two sisters, Mamie V. Morton, Michelle C. Morton; and aunts, Carol Hicks, Eleanor Morton, Ester Aiken, and Emma Morton and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends remain.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Moses and Georgia Mae Morton, Ms. Mary Aiken (maternal Grandmother), Mr. and Mrs. Rockford (Annie Mae) Morton (paternal Grandparents), two sisters, Linda Morton, and Betty Jones (John); one nephew, Jason Morton; and a loving cousin Betty Laster.
