Rev. Jo Jackson Obituary

Rev. Jo Rossie Covin Jackson, 97, departed this earthly life on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. She was born in Abbeville, SC to the parentage of the late Ambrose and Martha McCullogh Ware.

Rev. Jackson was a member of Shady Grove AME Church. She graduated from State High School in Abbeville County. From there she met James Covin and married. Together they had three children; late Bernard Covin, Juanita Randolph, and Chauncey Covin. They traveled around the country on military services, eventually residing in Philadelphia, PA.

Rev. Jackson began her career as a Crossing Guard for the City of Philadelphia. For 20 years she served the community with a caring heart. After she retired, she became an ordained minister in Philadelphia. Preaching at Mother Bethel and several different churches. 

Years later she returned back home to Abbeville, SC and married Thomas Jackson. She kept busy as a substitute teacher and cosmetologist. Rev. Jackson was the president of the Women’s Home Aid Society. She loved to travel. go to church, and take care of her family! She also loved to tell stories about her life. Rev. Jackson’s work on this side represents a true depiction of her unwavering strength and legacy that continues to live on in the hearts she touched.

Rev. Jackson leaves to cherish her precious memories one son, Chaucey Covin of Abbeville, SC; one daughter, Juanita Randolph of Abbeville, SC; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Rev. Jackson was preceded in death by one son, Bernard Covin; three brothers, Howard Ware, James Ware, Marshall Ware; five sisters, Alma Marshall, Emma Harris, Sara Mae Davis, Sina Ware, and Maggie Heflin.
