Rodney Winfred Hawthorne

Rodney Winfred Hawthorne, better known as “Stoney, 74, transitioned into his eternal home on June 7, 2026 at Abbeville Medical Center in Abbeville, SC. He was born in Abbeville, SC on November 8, 1951 to the late R. E. and Margaret Hawthorne.

Rodney Joined Mt. Lebanon AME Church at an early age. He is a graduate of Dixie High School Class of 1969. Upon graduation, Rodney worked for Flexible Technologies for 39 years. After retirement he rejoined the workforce where he was currently working at Abbeville County Department of Public Works.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 24 years, Martha Ware Hawthorne; two sons, Victor (Jessica) Hawthorne of CA, John (Sandra) McBride of GA; four daughters, Latishia Hawthorne of Greer, SC, Sharon (Sanchez) Salter of Simpsonville, SC, Theresa (Rico) Harris of Greenwood, SC, Shatara Nesbitt of Greenville, SC; one brother, Lurman (Lynn) Hawthorne of Greenwood, SC; four brothers-in-law, Howard (Louise) Ware, Raymond (Susan) Ware, John Brown, Jerry Williams; his best buddies, Joe Jackson, Ralph Jackson, Perry Murray, Ernest Morton; two sisters-in-law, Gail Hawthorne, Victoria (Alfonso) Postell; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren;; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Darrell Hawthorne; one sister, Denise Hawthorne; and one granddaughter, Taloria Hawthorne.
