On June 30, 1931, Tommie Calhoun, Jr. was born to the late Tommie Calhoun Sr. and Janie Calhoun in Abbeville, South Carolina. On February 6, 2024, Tommie departed this life at Richard M Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Tommie served in the US Army, National Guard, and later worked at CSX Transportation for 29 years. He was a faithful member of Long Cane AME Church where he served as a Steward, Trustee, for many years, a member of the Male Choir, and Graveyard Marker for Long Cane AME Church Cemetery. He is the oldest member of Dreher Lodge #370 for 56 years and a member of South East Operator CB Club.
"Jule," as he was fondly called by his family and friends, was kind, loving, and a generous person who always wore a smile on his face. He enjoyed going fishing, playing cards, playing checkers, and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and a special friend, Ms. Mary Franklin.
He leaves to cherish his memories two sons, Thomas (Tara) Calhoun III of Massachusetts, John (Carolyn) Jackson of Riverdale, GA; three daughters, Mary Phillip of Greenville, SC, Shirley Jean Calhoun of Greenwood, SC, April (Marvin) McCouller of Ware Shoals, SC; one Goddaughter, Betty Stevens; four brothers, Charles (Bonita) Calhoun of Beaufort, GA, Ernest Calhoun, Roy (Patricia) Calhoun, Willie (Jackie) Calhoun all of Abbeville, SC; one sister, Eddie Louise Willis of Abbeville, SC; ten grandchildren, Robert James Offley, Natasha Denise Calhoun, Gabriel Calhoun, La’Shene Hawkins, Mattie Calhoun, De’Paris Calhoun, Contravious Calhoun, Tra’Leeza McCouller, Thomas Calhoun, Ta’’Jiri McCouller; 22 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Rosia Marie Calhoun; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommie and Janie Calhoun, his wife, Anna Bryson Calhoun; two sons, Ernest Kevin Calhoun, Stevie Jackson; three brothers, John Henry McDuffie, Rev. James Calhoun, George Calhoun; four sisters, Rosetta Harris, Mary Ball, Linda Lomax, Margaret Elizabeth Minor; and one great grandson, CJ Calhoun.
