William Henry Brooks, Jr.

William “Woody” Brooks, 92, transitioned to his new home on December 4, 2023, while at the Richard B. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC after a short illness.

Woody was born in Abbeville, SC on June 10, 1931, and was the only son of the late William H. Brooks and Fannie “Odell” Weston Brooks. He joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church at an early age, where he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

After honorably serving his country during the Korean Conflict with the Seventh United States Army in Germany, Woody returned to J. S. Wright High School and proudly graduated with the Class of 1959. Upon graduation, he went to work in the textile industry; however, he subsequently started his own carpentry business. It was well known that if you wanted carpentry work done and done right, “Call Woody”, but it was said that he was “a little on the high side”. He enjoyed reading the Bible and solving puzzles. He took pride in mastering his penmanship and utilizing his excellent carpentry skills.

Woody is survived by his wife of seventy years, Emerline Brooks, and his children, William “Kent” Brooks (Claudette) of Easley, SC; Verdell “Neat” Brooks of Abbeville, SC; Wilhelmina Brooks Smith (Leroy) of Hephzibah, Ga.; Tami Brooks-Curd of Cumming, Ga; Gregory F. Brooks (Brenda) of Greenville, SC; Robert H. Brooks (Karen) of Greenville, SC; and Caroline Brooks of Abbeville, SC. Additionally, he leaves eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and
friends who will cherish his memory.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Henry Earl Brooks; daughter, Carolyn Brooks, and sisters, Nina E. Brooks-Williams and Gladys Brooks-Brown.
